What can I do if I think my spouse is hiding financial information from me?

For starters, once you hire an attorney and begin discussions of a divorce, both parties will have to complete a Statement of Net Worth. This is a document where you disclose your monthly expenses, income, assets and liabilities. After this exchange there is a process called discovery. This is when both parties serve demands upon each other for the various financial/relevant documents related to your income, assets and liabilities.

During this process both parties will provide the other party with all documents that are in their possession. If one or both parties believe there are documents or accounts missing from this disclosure that is where subpoenas come in handy. Your attorney can draft a subpoena to almost any financial or governmental institution to receive any documentation they may have in your name and your spouse’s name. This is a way to ensure that all documents are being produced as they are coming straight from the institution themselves.
